Everything and Nothing (2)

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of these two people in holy matrimony" the Minister was saying. Chioma smiled lovingly into Seyi's eyes. It all seemed like a dream. She remembered how her hopes were almost dashed a few months ago.

"I don't know how to say this, you know I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you....but I can't. I should let you go. I don't want to waste any more of your time Chioma."
"Seyi, what are you talking about? Waste my time? How?" Chioma asked, beginning to panick.
"See, all my life, my parents have been all I've had. They've given me everything I have and ever asked for. So when they ask something of me, it may not always be reasonable but....but I just have to do it. They're my parents" he said
"I understand, but what does that have to do with me?"
"We can't get married. Apparently my parents would rather I marry a Yoruba girl. They've asked me to put a stop to things"
"But they welcomed me into their home. What are you on about? Is this a ploy to leave me? Are you cheating on me Seyi" Chioma asked suspiciously, beginning to raise her voice.
"I would never cheat on you. I respect you too much to do that, but we can't go ahead with the wedding plans. You don't know how much this kills me babe. You're the best thing in my life. And the thought of letting you go is almost too much to bear" Seyi said with a catch in his voice. Chioma could see Seyi was struggling so she couldn't understand what was happening.
"If it hurts so much then why do you want to do it Seyi? We belong together. Don't do this to us. Please Seyi. I beg you in God's name", Chioma said, sobbing.
"I'm sorry my darling. They've threatened to disown me. That's how serious they are. I never thought they were such tribalists, but they're my parents, the only ones I have" Seyi said.
He began to walk away. Chioma could not stand to see him walk out of the room and out of her life so in a moment of desperation she played her last card.
"So what's to become of us?" She asked.
Seyi stopped in his tracks, there was something in her voice that told him she wasn't referring to him. He turned back and saw her. Her eyes were cast down and she rubbed her belly tenderly.
"Us who?" He asked
"Your baby and I, Seyi. What's to become of us?" Chioma repeated.
In a flash Seyi rushed to her side and took hold of her hands.
"Are you saying you're carrying my child?" Seyi asked, searching her eyes.
"Yes" Chioma nodded, there were tears in her eyes. Seyi wrapped her in his arms and held her tight
"Oh my love! I'm so sorry. I will never leave you. You're my life, my world. Please forget everything I said. Please. I promise I'll make it right. Believe me" Seyi was close to tears. Chioma held onto him tightly and sighed deeply. It was a sigh of relief.

Seyi was torn between pain and joy. Chioma having his baby was the best thing that had ever happened him. When he left her, he headed straight for his parents' home. Mrs Cole was surprised to see her son but delighted nonetheless. However, her joy was short lived.
"E'kason sir", Seyi greeted. Chief Cole saw the look on his son's face and knew something unpleasant was to follow.
"I'll go straight to the point. I'm marrying Chioma. If you both decide you don't want to be a part of our lives, then that's your prerogative. I have always been a good son and tried my best to live a life that pleased you, but there comes a time in a man's life when he has to stand on his feet and make his own decisions, that time has come for me."
"So Seyi, you're willing to go ahead and marry that girl, without our blessings? You're willing to cease to become a member of this family because of that, that, that igbo girl?" Mrs Cole asked, incredulously. Suddenly, she jumped up from her chair
" I just knew it. Daddy Seyi, se mo so fun e? I told you! That omo-Ibo has charmed our son. But it will not work. Seyi! What ever she has given you, whatever she has fed you with, you must vomit it! Today Seyi! Today!" Mrs Cole said grabbing her son by the collar and shaking him. Seyi sat there, silently. Waiting for her to wear herself out.
"Is that your final decision?" Chief Cole asked calmly. Seyi nodded.
"Leave my house. You may return when you have ended things with that young woman. Till then I never want to set my eyes on you" chief Cole said, getting up and leaving Seyi and a delirious Mrs Cole alone in the sitting room. Seyi finally shrugged off his mother and walked away.
A month later, Seyi felt a lump in his throat as he watched the beautiful mother of his child walk down down the aisle. She was resplendent in a flowing white dress and the most priceless smile. She looked just like an angel. His angel. As Chioma got to the altar she almost screamed out in joy. "Finally!" She thought to herself.
Chief and Mrs Cole were dumbfounded. To their utter disbelief Seyi had gone ahead with his marriage plans. Mrs Cole pleaded with her husband on the day of the wedding.
"Oko mi, please! He's our only son. I beg of you. We have already failed him, we didn't give him the kind of wedding he deserved, but its not too late. I have all the details of this wedding. Please let us go there. I cannot lose my only son." Mrs Cole said.
Her younger sister had told her that Seyi had approached her and her husband to stand in as his parents on that day and had pleaded with her to reconsider, persuading her that there was nothing wrong in marrying from the Igbo tribe, or any other tribe.
They sat at the back of the church, watching their son. He looked very happy and she regretted not being a part of the plans that lead to this day, but thanked God that she was there to witness it.

Time had come to say their vows and the Minister was saying "Do you, Chioma, take this man....." When suddenly, there was a deafeningly loud noise. There were gun shots right there inside the church. There was an uproar as everyone scampered around, trying to find safety. Seyi grabbed Chioma and pulled her with him to hide behind the altar. More gun shots went up in the air. The people did not know which way to run so most of them dove to the ground and buried their heads in fear. Chioma, hidden behind the altar, raised her head in confusion. She had never heard of armed robbers in a church. What she saw nearly caused her to cry out in shock. With a gun raised in the air, she watched in stunned silence as a crazed looking Biola bounded up to the altar. Chioma was so demoralized with fear that she began to wet her pant.

"where is she!?" Biola screamed. Mrs Okafor looked in amazement at her daughter's friend whom she had been told was on a course in the USA.
"Chioma Okafor, come out here before I kill somebody. I have nothing to lose. I have nothing to fear. Come out now"
Seyi held Chioma. "Don't go anywhere, let me handle this" he said, whimpering. His heart was pounding as he came out from behind the altar. He was petrified but he had to protect his wife and their unborn child.
"What do you want Biola? We asked for your forgiveness. Why are you doing this?" He asked. Trying his best to sound calm.
"Where's that harlot?" Biola spat. "So she thinks she can take away my happiness and live happily ever after? She must be delusional!" she screamed.
The people in the congregation were slowly beginning to realize that they were not the target. One by one they stood up from the ground and watched the scenario that played out right in front of them. A few had brought out their phones and begun to record, this would get many hits on YouTube.
Chief and Mrs Cole exchanged looks of "We knew it!".
Chioma continued to shiver in fear behind the altar. Biola noticing that her element of surprise was beginning to fade let out another shot into the air. Mrs Okafor decided to take matters into her hand. On her knees she went to meet Biola.
"Please my daughter. I beg of you. Forgive. I knew something wasn't right and I asked them but they lied. But for my sake, please. Don't do this. Vengeance belongs to God. Remember I have always called you my daughter."
At the sight of her friend's mother Biola's resolve began to slip. On her face there was a look of confusion as she struggled to decide what to do. She didn't hear the footsteps behind her. In a spilt second the gun was hit out of her hand and her hands were bound in cuffs.

Biola was held in the cell at the police station. During investigation the gun she had disrupted the wedding with was found to have contained blanks. Thanks to her parents' connections and their brilliant family lawyer, she was released the next day.
"So what did you hope to achieve?" Daniel, the lawyer asked.
"I really don't know, cause a bit of confusion I guess. Things haven't gone too well for me in the love department. Why should she have it perfect when she's partly to blame?" Biola asked with a mischievous grin.
Daniel looked at her and smiled. He liked her spirit. Holding hands and laughing, together, they walked away from the police station and into a world of possibilities.

Later that night......
"I'm so sorry darling" Seyi said, holding his woman close. Since the incident the previous day she had had a mild fever. Chioma moved away from him, tears in her eyes.
"I have something to tell you Seyi. I don't know how you're going to take this. But please know that I have loved you, and I will always love you" Chioma said, wiping her tear-streaked face.
"Go ahead" Seyi said. His mind was spinning in different directions, wondering what she could possibly have to say.
Chioma thought hard, took a deep breathe and said, "I may have lost the pregnancy. Seyi, our baby, our baby is gone" she said breaking down as the floodgates were let open. She wept uncontrollably. "I think it's what happened yesterday. The shock was too much. I was soaked in blood when we got home. I went to the bathroom and.. Seyi.. Little clumps of blood, Seyi . Our baby, our child" she said, falling into his arms".
Seyi was overcome with grief. He held unto her, trying to console her and also draw consolation from her. But suddenly, he sat up, something struck him as strange.
"That happened yesterday. Why are you just telling me now?" He asked.
He noticed Chioma's eyes begin to twitch. As with the napkin in her mother's house months ago, she began to fidget with the sheets. She was about to mutter something but he cut her short.
"Were you even pregnant Chioma?"
In her silence he found his answer. Seyi was weak in the knees yet he willed himself to move. He stopped at the door, taking one last look at the stranger on the bed, he wondered if he ever really knew her.

                                                             The END.

  1. Hmn....lovely story..thelma why don't you get connected with this movie producers and write for them.u write so well and make me imagine all d scenes in my head!!kip it up love,u r appreciated

  2. Good one, looking forward to the next post.

  3. eerrrrrrrmmmmm......ok! not what i wanted, but ours nice....i love it...

  4. Gelo. what did you want? Nice one Thelma. I was so scared Chioma and Seyi would end up together. thank God he saw her for the bi*** she really is.

    1. they still ended up getting married....i didn't want them to be so happy together, not after she deceived biola...but since he found out she lied then I'm good...

    2. Gelo, no where in the story did I write that they ended up getting married. Notice the last sentence; "he stopped at the door, taking one LAST look at the stranger..."

  5. Wow! Fantastic. I love that Biola didnt take it sitting down. I was beginning to empathize with Chioma until she lied about being pregnant. Scheming woman! I hope it works out between Biola and the lawyer.

  6. Shit! I knew she was lying to about the pregnancy. The things people do in the name of love makes me wonder sometimes, the desperation and pressure to get married is causing a lot trouble for people. In Biola's case she made a wrong statement in "so she thinks she can take away my happiness", the mistake most of us make is giving someone else power over our happiness, if you can't truly make yourself happy then no one can.

Turia Pitt Suffered 65% Burns But Loved Conquered All...

Amazing Story Shared by Dr. Ben Carson on Facebook, i thought it is inspiring and i decided to share;

The Australian ex-model Turia Pitt suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body, lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and spent five months in hospital after she was trapped by a grassfire in a 100 kilometre ultra-marathon in the Kimberley. Her boyfriend decided to quit his job to care for her recovery.
Days ago, in an interview for CNN they asked him:
"Did you at any moment think about leaving her and hiring someone to take care of her and moving on with your life?"

His reply touched the world:

"I married her soul, her character, and she's the only woman that will continue to fulfill my dreams."

This made me very reflective. I just wonder; if the person you love today encounters an incident or accident that transforms who they are physically, it could be amputation, it could be paralysis, it could be severe burns that scald their flesh beyond recognition, w…

Good morning people!
Just checking in to sign the register. Lol. It's been a very busy week and it looks like it might be an even busier weekend. I was hoping to get some writing done when I got to the airport yesterday but I even almost missed my flight. It was hopeless trying to do any work on the plane as it was bumpy af, and this toddler behind me wouldn't stop screaming in piercing shrieks like he was being exorcised.
I got into town pretty late and needed to keep an appointment ASAP. I'm heading out right now and it's going to be a long day, but thought I should drop this first.
Have a splendid day. Im'ma be back soon.

See how you are serious dey read this story....!

A side chick is commonly known as a mistress or a woman that’s romantically involved with a man who is in a committed relationship.  However after doing some reflecting, I realize that’s not the only type of side chick.  I want to discuss “the new side chick”–a woman who decides to stay by a man’s side after he has expressed his lack of relationship intentions with her through his words or actions.  So many women have made this mistake at least once in their lifetime, and unfortunately I’ve done the same thing. I like to think of the new side chick as an appetizer.  You’re there just to satisfy the immediate appetite of the man, but as soon as that mouth-watering entrée comes out to the table, you will get pushed to the side, literally.  Why?  Because that entrée is what he really wanted; he went to the restaurant to order steak, not hot wings.  You were just a placeholder, fling, temporary commitment, or  maybe even just a “good ol time” until what he really wanted was presented to hi…

I'm in an amebo mood tonight. Don't ask me, I honestly don't know why. Also I'd like to share too but I'd do that anonymously in the comment section. Tonight I want to talk about secrets. It's ok, we can all be anonymous.
Is it true that EVERYBODY has a secret?
Is there anyone here who doesn't have a secret? I'd really like to know; You're a completely open book and there's not ONE thing about you that you wouldn't mind other people knowing about? Please raise your hands up.
And for the rest of us, what's something about you that no one knows, or very few people know? Who's got a dark secret here, or a weird one, or a funny one even? I really don't mean to be invasive but I don't want to be the only one sharing, plus I think hearing other people's secrets is quite fun, don't you think?

Let's Be Random Together! (Open Keypad).

Hey guys, a while back blog reader F said something about creating an Open Keypad post, where you can write whatever you want in the comment section. I thought it was a fun idea!
So who is interested? Comment on anything you feel like, ask me or anyone a question, talk about how your day went, your job, your interests, tell us something about you that we don't know, share a testimony with us, rant about anything you feel like, talk about your crush/boo/spouse/relationship/marriage, challenges you're facing, ANYTHING AT ALL!
I'll only make one request; that we stay civil.

(F it was you who made this suggestion, right? I'm not too sure and I can't even remember the post the comment was made on).
BTW please Ejoeccome out come out, wherever you are!

Closed Chapter...

Hello everyone, yesterday a friend said to me, Thelma I love your blog, I've told so many people about your blog, I think you're a very good writer but I feel there's something you're not doing right"

This friend was the first person who won our beauty of the day contest back then in 2014. Then we had met just once through a mutual friend. I mentioned the blog to her and she became an instant reader. I wouldn't have exactly called her a friend then but yesterday as we sat down waiting for our Uber to come get us from Wal-Mart, she's definitely my friend and I knew she was coming from a good place when she said she had much higher expectations of my blog.

Me too.

But you see, in the last year or so, maybe even longer than that, I haven't felt much joy in blogging. It began to feel more and more of a laborious chore, one which I hardly reaped any fruits from.

I really love writing, I love sharing my life and my experiences with others and I've enjoy…
