It's no news that I'm in love with love and I look for every opportunity to celebrate it, but this is different because I get a bit nostalgic and a warm fuzzy feeling in my belly everytime I see a friend I've known since we were tiny tots, take those big steps and milestones like graduation, careers, marriage, pregnancy and babies.
We were in primary school (Fountain Nursery and Primary School, Surulere) together and she lived close to school so most times after school we'd go back to her place to play. I remember vividly that the first time I was spanked by my dad it was because I went to her place after school and got carried away and my people were looking for me for several hours till I was traced to her house. You can imagine, school closed before 2pm and I was found around 7pm. Daddy really spanked me that day.
Coincidentally we were in the same set in QC and although we were never close we found ourselves in the same GCE exam center in SS3 and struck a friendship again. This time around though, it wasn't as innocent as primary school days; I harbored a bit of envy for her *covers face*. Of course we were now teenagers and there were guys around and there was just something about Damilola, everyone else obscured in comparison.
There were a few parties, there was one particular party hosted by some King's College boys that I took her to, a decision I came to regret. I would never forget how my crush (my incentive for attending that party) slobbered all over her. Not just him, his friends as well. All the guys were panting and shaking like wet dogs when they saw her. I left her at the party and went home. For weeks to come my supposed crush kept asking about my fair fine friend. *Sobssssss* haha!
So when I look at someone now, someone whom I still remember how they looked at age 5, and Ive seen them grow, achieve, marry, conceive... It just comes to mind that this life is an amazing thing. It really gets me emotional. Congrats to Dammy and Chris Attoh.
With this in mind I'd like to Shout Out to all my friends who've been my friends from Primary school days till date, most especially Emmanuella Obanya, Barrister Olawunmi Oyebode and Echezona Nwabasili (whom I just got off the phone with about 5minutes ago; we've got a 'lazy' date planned for tomorrow). LOL.
I thank God for life.
