Ciara Returned $500K Engagement Ring. What Would You Do?

Father please forgive me for having an opinion on someone else's SO when I don't even have S  talkless of O. But I always just felt Ciara was settling, with Future. I mean, YOU ARE CIARA bae! It's like you don't know who you are... I always imagined her with some Prince Charming kind of fellow, you know, someone like Justin Timberlake or Tyler Perry or maybe Taye Diggs and not Future. Future... Not like I have anything against him but...

Ok. That's all besides the point. So in case you haven't heard Cici called off her engagement to Future. And in case you also haven't heard she returned the engagement ring he gave her which is allegedly worth $500,000. And now some people seem enraged by this singular act.

On one hand, the engagement is cancelled and the wedding isn't going to hold, neither is the marriage. So it only seems right that she returns the ring back to the giver.
On the other hand the ring was given to her and is therefore hers. So basically she has every right to, and ought to keep it.

I don't know but errr, I might look at it and say "this is my compensation for emotional suffering and having to deal with a cheating schmuck", then I'll trade it in and blow the cash on an extremely unforgettable vacation or something.
Or I might be too hurt or upset and not want to have any reminder of the schmuck who betrayed my trust and cheated on me so I'd return it.

What would you do? And while we're at it what are your thoughts on returning gifts that were given during a relationship. Would you return something your Ex gave you while you guys were dating? Would you demand for the things that you gave your boo during the relationship?

So far I'm yet to return or demand for anything, but that's just me. What about you?

Comments

  1. 1) If she had a friend like Keisha Greene, she wldnt return the ring
    2) This was a topic on According to Him and Her on BET (Friday at 10pm..lol)
    3) If he didn't ask for a return,I wldnt give it back. If I don't want a reminder,I'll give the gifts out to random peeps but him.
    4) I wld sell the ring and splash the cash on a good vacay to venice or ibiza. The ring becomes useless if there's not gonna be wedding

@eesah, love made ciara overlook the baby mama drama, i guess she thought she could wither the storm. Am sure the ring aint her problem now. Besides she just made headlines with The ring.

  9. It depends on the relative cost of the gift to your worth. If you got a BB bold 3 few years back as a gift, when you were kind of broke, would you return it now that you're buoyant and can effortlessly afford a Z10? Well, I would return it, and if I don't I would surely discard without blinking. Ciara could be worth about $50million (not certain of her real worth), so $500k to her is like a *side attraction*. GOD bless her. :-)

I spoiled myself silly with it in one day! No time! It's MY ring.

    3. I returned the ring. I believe am engagement ring is not a gift but a symbol of intent to wed. It should be returned unless the man insists you keep it. However, if it was given as a birthday or Christmas or valentine's day present (and I generally don't agree with engagement rings as gifts) it can be kept. In my own case, I carefully packed the ring back in the box with the certificate of authenticity and sent it back.
We got back together eventually so I got the ring back though, and now it has a partner lol.

  13. Looking at it this way, the gift has a significance you accepted it because you wanted to marry him. Keeping it might insinuate that you're still holding on to him. And for record, if it was a cheap ring or something you can easily afford you'll return it

My brother, lf Future were a Nigerian, I'm sure he would come for the ring.

You know we Naija babe's do the extra for our guys. So don't blame us if we decide to compensate our selves. LOL. Clare

  16. This just made me remember my friend who was at one time engaged to be married during our service year in 2012..the engagement was called off and the guy asked for his ring back. My girl didn't even say anything, she asked me to accompany her somewhere, not knowing she wanted to go sell her ring! Just like Ruthy did,my friend spoilt herself silly with the money but not in one day though..lol

  17. I returned my diamond studs, the psp even before I knew I had to move on. I gave out the red shoe and most of the clothes even the Marc Jacobs bag, I didn't return the piaget white watch though but that one found a way to disappear on it's on. I still miss that watch.... I wanted no reminder of him lying around and that was when I moved on completely.

Turia Pitt Suffered 65% Burns But Loved Conquered All...

Amazing Story Shared by Dr. Ben Carson on Facebook, i thought it is inspiring and i decided to share;

The Australian ex-model Turia Pitt suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body, lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and spent five months in hospital after she was trapped by a grassfire in a 100 kilometre ultra-marathon in the Kimberley. Her boyfriend decided to quit his job to care for her recovery.
Days ago, in an interview for CNN they asked him:
"Did you at any moment think about leaving her and hiring someone to take care of her and moving on with your life?"

His reply touched the world:

"I married her soul, her character, and she's the only woman that will continue to fulfill my dreams."

This made me very reflective. I just wonder; if the person you love today encounters an incident or accident that transforms who they are physically, it could be amputation, it could be paralysis, it could be severe burns that scald their flesh beyond recognition, w…

Good morning people!
Just checking in to sign the register. Lol. It's been a very busy week and it looks like it might be an even busier weekend. I was hoping to get some writing done when I got to the airport yesterday but I even almost missed my flight. It was hopeless trying to do any work on the plane as it was bumpy af, and this toddler behind me wouldn't stop screaming in piercing shrieks like he was being exorcised.
I got into town pretty late and needed to keep an appointment ASAP. I'm heading out right now and it's going to be a long day, but thought I should drop this first.
Have a splendid day. Im'ma be back soon.

THE ‘NEW’ SIDE CHICK: I WAS HER

A side chick is commonly known as a mistress or a woman that’s romantically involved with a man who is in a committed relationship.  However after doing some reflecting, I realize that’s not the only type of side chick.  I want to discuss “the new side chick”–a woman who decides to stay by a man’s side after he has expressed his lack of relationship intentions with her through his words or actions.  So many women have made this mistake at least once in their lifetime, and unfortunately I’ve done the same thing. I like to think of the new side chick as an appetizer.  You’re there just to satisfy the immediate appetite of the man, but as soon as that mouth-watering entrée comes out to the table, you will get pushed to the side, literally.  Why?  Because that entrée is what he really wanted; he went to the restaurant to order steak, not hot wings.  You were just a placeholder, fling, temporary commitment, or  maybe even just a “good ol time” until what he really wanted was presented to hi…

Shhhhhhh....

I'm in an amebo mood tonight. Don't ask me, I honestly don't know why. Also I'd like to share too but I'd do that anonymously in the comment section. Tonight I want to talk about secrets. It's ok, we can all be anonymous.
Is it true that EVERYBODY has a secret?
Is there anyone here who doesn't have a secret? I'd really like to know; You're a completely open book and there's not ONE thing about you that you wouldn't mind other people knowing about? Please raise your hands up.
And for the rest of us, what's something about you that no one knows, or very few people know? Who's got a dark secret here, or a weird one, or a funny one even? I really don't mean to be invasive but I don't want to be the only one sharing, plus I think hearing other people's secrets is quite fun, don't you think?

Let's Be Random Together! (Open Keypad).

Hey guys, a while back blog reader F said something about creating an Open Keypad post, where you can write whatever you want in the comment section. I thought it was a fun idea!
So who is interested? Comment on anything you feel like, ask me or anyone a question, talk about how your day went, your job, your interests, tell us something about you that we don't know, share a testimony with us, rant about anything you feel like, talk about your crush/boo/spouse/relationship/marriage, challenges you're facing, ANYTHING AT ALL!
I'll only make one request; that we stay civil.

(F it was you who made this suggestion, right? I'm not too sure and I can't even remember the post the comment was made on).
BTW please Ejoeccome out come out, wherever you are!
