Blog Reader Asks... What Exactly Constitutes Adultery?

Now I shall openly ask my Q. Does adultery refer to sex with a married man or with a married woman? Because to be honest, the bible strongly warns against married women (eg king David and bathsheba).

Blog reader asked me to ask you guys this question last week but I forgot. She said she had searched the bible and adultery as defined by the Bible refers only to sex with a married woman and is silent about sex with a married man. She's wondering if anyone can help shed some light on this matter.

Ps; I just wanted to use that picture. Not sure who to credit the work to. I can't even remember where I found it.

  1. As long as a man and woman be married, when either or both of them have intercourse with other people, they have both committed adultery.

Whether their respective partners are married or single.

However, if a single lady or guy sleeps with a married man or woman, the singles have committed fornication. While the married have committed adultery.

    My 2 cents

    1. Under whose authority are u making ur '2 cents'?

  2. As long as a man and woman be married, when either or both of them have intercourse with other people, they have both committed adultery.

Whether their respective partners are married or single.

However, if a single lady or guy sleeps with a married man or woman, the singles have committed fornication. While the married have committed adultery.

    My 2 cents

  3. What a question!!

    *lips sealed and watching*

  4. As iiiiiin what a Question!!!

  5. Very stupid Q! Sorry to say!...-C

  6. I get the feeling that if she truly "searched" the scriptures, as she claimed she did, she would have received enough insight and inspiration to decipher wrong from right.

    1. You have "completely finished" answering the question!

I mean how can someone "search" through the bible and at the end come up with that kind of question?! *bewildered look* beats me! *bbm confused smiley*

  7. "Thou shall not commit adultery" abi did she read "she shall not commit

    1. Now, define the term Adultery. Cos according to her (frm the bible), Adultery only applies to a woman.

Wait oh! Una no sabi read again?

  8. No one has said anything to "shed some light" over this Q. Why was David punished over bathsheba yet she wasn't his first wife? The book of Matthew 5:31 and Matthew. 19:8-10 focused on married women.

    1. Least I may add,Proverbs 5 and Proverb 6:20-35. Emphasis on vs 29 and 34.
I know this post might sound "stupid" but someone shld pls explain the dimensions/dynamics of "adultry"

    2. Bathsheba was Uriah's wife! David got the poor guy killed by instructing that he should be sent to the hottest zone at the battle front.

David's action was displeasing to the Lord, who thereafter sent Nathan the prophet to reprimand the king.

    3. I forgot to add that marrying more than one woman was ok under the old testament but the manner of acquisition in the case of Bathsheba was the problem.

Can't delve into the other part of your question right now, maybe when I am back.

    4. Ok,seen. But those bible books I put up focused on married women. I need biblical passages to show that married men are offlimits. (Not like I'm supporting anything)

    5. Am no bible scholar but I clearly don't see how the above mentioned passages are confusing or emphazing adultery to be focused on married women. The Matthew 19 part was a direct answer to the question asked by the Pharisee 'men' in verse 3 ("is it unlawful for a man"....) , a question we were made to understand was asked in mischief. Am sure if a woman had been the one to ask that question, the "wife" in verse 9, would have been replaced with husband.
Regarding the proverbs passage mentioned. Everybody knows that book was literally a father's words of wisdom to his son which I believe was included in the bible that coming generations may benefit from as well. Why would I warn my son against going in to his neighbour's husband unless I know for a fact he is gay?
I think the mix up here is the use of the term fornication in stating the only reason valid for divorcing one's wife. Essentially, fornication or adultery still is one and the same thing spiritually. Unless you're talking about morality which in my own opinion is more important to people who try to justify some of their wrong deeds just so they can sleep better at night. #selfdeceit
The same bible when it addresses mankind only uses the term "man" or "son of man"... Do we then say the bible was written with emphasis on men alone? Take the advice, teaching or warning in a verse and apply it to your case as it were, shikena!!!

    6. My sadness is you feeling u've made a valid point.

"Am sure if a woman had been the one to ask that question, the "wife" in verse 9, would have been replaced with husband."
.....Please how SURE are u? Where are ur assertions emanating from? Where is Ur Authority? If u don't find it there(the bible) don't make unbased conclusions please.

    7. Thank God you said your sadness cos I refuse to share in that... Well, there's something called an opinion which U clearly lack on the subject at hand hence your resorting to the 'critique' role play.
Wisdom is profitable to direct my dear and NO! Am not SURE if that is in the bible as well.

  9. What is this person even saying? You want Bible passage(s) to convince you that sex with a married man isn't adultery? Abeg use your tongue to count your teeth. You are only looking for an excuse to have intercourse with that married man that's been toasting you. Na your cuppa tea!

  10. Well, the bible warns against women that break marriages/wedlock and the Bible says they will be judged. I think its safe to say that this is also a warning against women who sleep with married men. See Ezekiel 16:38 "and I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged: and I will give thee blood in fury and Jealousy". I think it has to do with interpretation really. Some versions also refer to such a woman as an adulteress. But as far as I am concerned, someone who breaks wedlock could also mean someone who sleeps with a married man and subsequently also breaks the marriage of that married man.

  11. Sleeping with a married man is quite different from breaking a wedlock.
You don't break wedlock by sleeping With a married man.
Now the question is, has the man commit adultery by sleeping with the Woman.
Aaarrrgggh! Why can't we just be focused onthe question at hand?

    1. Maybe you need to read snd digest what i wrote again. Just in case, let me break it down for you because it looks like you missed the part where i mentioned interpretation, sadly. The Bible warns against women who break wedlock. I HAVE decided to INTERPRETE this as either being their own wedlock OR that of another man's. In case you dont know, dictionary definition of wedlock means "the state of being married". Again, if a woman breaks wedlock, she could also be breaking another man's own as well as hers. But Thelma why are some people so vicious on here though? Now you see why i rarely comment like I told you. *sigh* *going back to my bubble*

  12. You think people here are vicious? Hmmm..haven't u ever been to that other blog..yea..that popular one...yes that one...Viciousness rules there, they even reign insults on one another, this, right here is just a heated argument my dear

  13. adultery is not just about sexual intercourse. it's also about giving emotion commitment meant only for your spouse to someone else. Jesus taught that just looking at someone LUSTFULLY is committing adultery. giving someone other than your spouse any emotional/physical pleasure or gratification is cheating and hence, adultery. you cannot serve two masters. you serve one and leave the other. if you give any part of yourself to someone else, you leave your spouse to starve and God will punish you.

Turia Pitt Suffered 65% Burns But Loved Conquered All...

Amazing Story Shared by Dr. Ben Carson on Facebook, i thought it is inspiring and i decided to share;

The Australian ex-model Turia Pitt suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body, lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and spent five months in hospital after she was trapped by a grassfire in a 100 kilometre ultra-marathon in the Kimberley. Her boyfriend decided to quit his job to care for her recovery.
Days ago, in an interview for CNN they asked him:
"Did you at any moment think about leaving her and hiring someone to take care of her and moving on with your life?"

His reply touched the world:

"I married her soul, her character, and she's the only woman that will continue to fulfill my dreams."

This made me very reflective. I just wonder; if the person you love today encounters an incident or accident that transforms who they are physically, it could be amputation, it could be paralysis, it could be severe burns that scald their flesh beyond recognition, w…

Good morning people!
Just checking in to sign the register. Lol. It's been a very busy week and it looks like it might be an even busier weekend. I was hoping to get some writing done when I got to the airport yesterday but I even almost missed my flight. It was hopeless trying to do any work on the plane as it was bumpy af, and this toddler behind me wouldn't stop screaming in piercing shrieks like he was being exorcised.
I got into town pretty late and needed to keep an appointment ASAP. I'm heading out right now and it's going to be a long day, but thought I should drop this first.
Have a splendid day. Im'ma be back soon.

We talked for a while and and and and and and
See how you are serious dey read this story....!

A side chick is commonly known as a mistress or a woman that’s romantically involved with a man who is in a committed relationship.  However after doing some reflecting, I realize that’s not the only type of side chick.  I want to discuss “the new side chick”–a woman who decides to stay by a man’s side after he has expressed his lack of relationship intentions with her through his words or actions.  So many women have made this mistake at least once in their lifetime, and unfortunately I’ve done the same thing. I like to think of the new side chick as an appetizer.  You’re there just to satisfy the immediate appetite of the man, but as soon as that mouth-watering entrée comes out to the table, you will get pushed to the side, literally.  Why?  Because that entrée is what he really wanted; he went to the restaurant to order steak, not hot wings.  You were just a placeholder, fling, temporary commitment, or  maybe even just a “good ol time” until what he really wanted was presented to hi…

I'm in an amebo mood tonight. Don't ask me, I honestly don't know why. Also I'd like to share too but I'd do that anonymously in the comment section. Tonight I want to talk about secrets. It's ok, we can all be anonymous.
Is it true that EVERYBODY has a secret?
Is there anyone here who doesn't have a secret? I'd really like to know; You're a completely open book and there's not ONE thing about you that you wouldn't mind other people knowing about? Please raise your hands up.
And for the rest of us, what's something about you that no one knows, or very few people know? Who's got a dark secret here, or a weird one, or a funny one even? I really don't mean to be invasive but I don't want to be the only one sharing, plus I think hearing other people's secrets is quite fun, don't you think?

Let's Be Random Together! (Open Keypad).

Hey guys, a while back blog reader F said something about creating an Open Keypad post, where you can write whatever you want in the comment section. I thought it was a fun idea!
So who is interested? Comment on anything you feel like, ask me or anyone a question, talk about how your day went, your job, your interests, tell us something about you that we don't know, share a testimony with us, rant about anything you feel like, talk about your crush/boo/spouse/relationship/marriage, challenges you're facing, ANYTHING AT ALL!
I'll only make one request; that we stay civil.

(F it was you who made this suggestion, right? I'm not too sure and I can't even remember the post the comment was made on).
BTW please Ejoeccome out come out, wherever you are!

Closed Chapter...

Hello everyone, yesterday a friend said to me, Thelma I love your blog, I've told so many people about your blog, I think you're a very good writer but I feel there's something you're not doing right"

This friend was the first person who won our beauty of the day contest back then in 2014. Then we had met just once through a mutual friend. I mentioned the blog to her and she became an instant reader. I wouldn't have exactly called her a friend then but yesterday as we sat down waiting for our Uber to come get us from Wal-Mart, she's definitely my friend and I knew she was coming from a good place when she said she had much higher expectations of my blog.

Me too.

But you see, in the last year or so, maybe even longer than that, I haven't felt much joy in blogging. It began to feel more and more of a laborious chore, one which I hardly reaped any fruits from.

I really love writing, I love sharing my life and my experiences with others and I've enjoy…
