Before you attack me, I'm one of Adele's BIGGEST fans, I can sing practically all the songs from her previous albums word for word, I remember once saying to someone that if Adele was a religion, I might be tempted to convert (well maybe not, but you get the drift).
The first time I heard Hello I'll admit that I listened to it two or three times. I thought it was a good song, but even then I thought she could do better. I mean, we'd waited for three years! Besides, when you put it beside songs like Set Fire To The Rain, Rolling In The Deep and Someone Like You, it doesn't even come close. So what then is all the hype about!!!
I was subjected to listening to the song, it's remix and over five of its covers, including Omawumi's version, played back to back on radio today (don't ask me why I couldn't just change the station).
MTN even went as far as getting the rights for caller tunes. In its first week it had over 200 million views on YouTube and I still can't figure out why!
Still, I'm a huge Adele fan, and I would sucker-punch you of you start that Adele vs Sia debate. Sia is awesome, she is extremely talented and gets 10/10 for originality and creativity. But most of you who say Sia is better than Adele have only heard Chandelier, and maybe Elastic Heart (which is another "OK" song). So please, give it a rest. Adele is King. (Let's not even talk about the likes of Beyoncé or Riri right now, those ones dey try *shrugs*).
I don't know about you but I think Hello is just ok, and if it was sung by someone else no one would even listen to it twice. But that's why you've just got to love Adele. She varnished for 3 years, did no Publicity, has almost zero social media presence, keeps a very verrrry low profile, and still she quietly dropped one track suddenly and it's BOOM; FIRE. Respect!
And the #HelloChallenge (where people send lines from the song to their Ex) is just hilarious, although a bit annoying. See some chats below.
