24th to 28th. This Might Be The Best Christmas Or Nah?

My sister's colleagues came to do some work at her house yesterday and I was with them. From the second they got here it was groaning galore. They lamented about work and how they wished some miracle would occur because they were very tired and needed a break, and 25th & 26th just wouldn't do. It seemed like a Christmas miracle when the news suddenly hit us; 24th and 28th had just been declared as public holidays!

Guys, it's going to be a long Christmas, any plans on how you're going to spend it? I'm not sure what my plans are yet (besides joining the food fest at Chocolate's mum's house on the 25th) but I've been looking forward to a lot, Including receiving gifts. And guess what, the gifts have started coming! I received my giveaway from Pynk360 blog yesterday and it had 25 pieces of jewelry. Check them out below.

Thanks Miss Pynk.

So guys, have you made any plans yet. Now, while some people are rejoicing and kissing Buhari, others are sniggering at him suspiciously. I found this comment below very interesting.

" “Maulud Nabiy”? I have never heard of this before now in Nigeria. Have we ever had this on the Nigerian official calendar before the Buhari administration?

There was his Iranian counterpart referring to Nigeria as a muslim country more than once in their telephone conversation, where he was talking to Buhari and his only interest and agenda (as one president to another) was the preservation of the lives of muslims in Nigeria; Buhari never once corrected him, each time he referred to Nigeria as one of the muslim countries of the world, that Nigeria is not a muslim country. Now, “Maulud Nabiy”?" (bella naija)

Thoughts, anyone?

Oh well, share your plans for the holidays with me? My fellow singletons, don't you just wished you were boo'd up right now? My 9-5'ers are you exempt from the holidays? Anyone having a party? (Please if you're in these parts of Lagos send me an invite) or are you just going to snooze through it? Do tell!

Update: just heard that the public holiday on 24th has been cancelled. True?

Comments

  1. Too many irrelevant things get Nigerians riled up. Unless I'm mistaken, "Maulud Nabiy" should be similar to or is "Eid el Maulud", and last I checked, has no definite date. Someone once told me that it seems Muslims, by allowing the Sharia law to be incorporated into our constitution, have an agenda to Islamize Nigeria. I laughed and told him he forgot that even our constitution is a direct offshoot of the constitution of the Church of England. Does that now mean Christians want to *Chritianize* Nigeria?

"...preservation of the lives of muslims in Nigeria...".

When Buhari travelled to Iran, did their president in any address, refer to Nigeria as a Muslim Nation? The phone call was made after the Shi'ite vs Army incident. Iran is predominantly a Muslim (Shia) nation so it's not out of place for the president to show concern.

    9. Pls what part of our constitution is "a direct offshoot from the church of England"?. Because the constitution allows a thief be tried in a court and jailed as opposed to being amputated makes our constitution a church of England thing?
FYI, our founding fathers who drafted our constitution weren't all Christians and neither were they all muslims...

  2. There has always been public holidays for Eid Maulud, it just hasn't been this close to Christmas.
Unless Maulud Nabiy is different from the Eid el Maulud, then that comment is null.

  3. Well, the comment might not be totally written off, if it's at all true that our President and his Iranian counterpart had that discussion.

Thelma please share the love, gimme some of the gifts.

  5. Malud has always been - it tends to fall more during Jan or feb - but the Islamic calender shifted in 2015 - Ramadan was June instead of the usual mid July/ August.

Nigeria can never be declared for one religion - even dunces know that- the Iranians are just trying to feel better.

As for your gifts I hope you enjoy them.

Carry Buhari matter for head? He's you goddamn president for God's sake.

You are living in the same country you expect to be a failure, as everyone else is living in 'false hope'. Are you sure you are not delusional yourself? Sit down and think about it. Who suffers if this country fails?

I don't Blame you guys, you are definitely a product of the past 32years of corrupt administrations.

  9. Haba! How can just one person get ALL the gifts. Abeg Thelma start sharing. Unfortunately I don't know how to rock that type of jewelry. I only wear stud hearings and a tiny gold chain.

  10. Dear Memphis!

    We need to talk o!
You need to explain to me what buhari and his cabinet are trying to do to the already crumbling economy and how their new economic policies would help us. The 80% increase in the unemployment rate? Kilo n sele? Are they done with blaming GEJ and are they planning to get to work and start to actually do something?! All these endless queues.. would it gonna end?

    A concerned former Buhari Loyalist.

Me.. public holiday or not... i'm going to work to claim my overtime *shines teeth* 25th... Errr? not sure yet....! but I must have fun!
Chocolate... can I use my iv now? I hear your mom makes the most amazing Christmas party food. Loool!
Thelma wie now come and post pictures and make us salivate *side eye*

  11. We have too many things to worry about as a nation for me to concern myself about whether or not another Muslim holiday has been arbitrarily added to the Nigerian calendar. The argument about some supposed Islamist agenda is a waste of time and doesn't solve any of our real issues.

Looking at previous comments, I noticed that a couple of them which fall into a certain kind of category (which I will not name) where posted by people hiding behind the "anonymous" tag. Calling out people in blog comments is just silly and Memphis need not justify himself at all to such people. Everyone should be allowed to support whomever they wish without someone trying to make them feel less human about it.

Moving on... 5 day weekend. I thought people were confused until I heard the announcement myself. Sad thing about working from home and for myself is that I tend to forget holidays. I'll probably wake up and be at my computer at my regular time before realizing no one else is working for the next few days.

Come, what do you plan to do with all that jewelry? Here's an idea, you can help a brother with his #SeizeTheBae project by donating one or two. Think about it.

Turia Pitt Suffered 65% Burns But Loved Conquered All...

Amazing Story Shared by Dr. Ben Carson on Facebook, i thought it is inspiring and i decided to share;

The Australian ex-model Turia Pitt suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body, lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and spent five months in hospital after she was trapped by a grassfire in a 100 kilometre ultra-marathon in the Kimberley. Her boyfriend decided to quit his job to care for her recovery.
Days ago, in an interview for CNN they asked him:
"Did you at any moment think about leaving her and hiring someone to take care of her and moving on with your life?"

His reply touched the world:

"I married her soul, her character, and she's the only woman that will continue to fulfill my dreams."

This made me very reflective. I just wonder; if the person you love today encounters an incident or accident that transforms who they are physically, it could be amputation, it could be paralysis, it could be severe burns that scald their flesh beyond recognition, w…

Good morning people!
Just checking in to sign the register. Lol. It's been a very busy week and it looks like it might be an even busier weekend. I was hoping to get some writing done when I got to the airport yesterday but I even almost missed my flight. It was hopeless trying to do any work on the plane as it was bumpy af, and this toddler behind me wouldn't stop screaming in piercing shrieks like he was being exorcised.
I got into town pretty late and needed to keep an appointment ASAP. I'm heading out right now and it's going to be a long day, but thought I should drop this first.
Have a splendid day. Im'ma be back soon.

THE ‘NEW’ SIDE CHICK: I WAS HER

A side chick is commonly known as a mistress or a woman that’s romantically involved with a man who is in a committed relationship.  However after doing some reflecting, I realize that’s not the only type of side chick.  I want to discuss “the new side chick”–a woman who decides to stay by a man’s side after he has expressed his lack of relationship intentions with her through his words or actions.  So many women have made this mistake at least once in their lifetime, and unfortunately I’ve done the same thing. I like to think of the new side chick as an appetizer.  You’re there just to satisfy the immediate appetite of the man, but as soon as that mouth-watering entrée comes out to the table, you will get pushed to the side, literally.  Why?  Because that entrée is what he really wanted; he went to the restaurant to order steak, not hot wings.  You were just a placeholder, fling, temporary commitment, or  maybe even just a “good ol time” until what he really wanted was presented to hi…

Shhhhhhh....

I'm in an amebo mood tonight. Don't ask me, I honestly don't know why. Also I'd like to share too but I'd do that anonymously in the comment section. Tonight I want to talk about secrets. It's ok, we can all be anonymous.
Is it true that EVERYBODY has a secret?
Is there anyone here who doesn't have a secret? I'd really like to know; You're a completely open book and there's not ONE thing about you that you wouldn't mind other people knowing about? Please raise your hands up.
And for the rest of us, what's something about you that no one knows, or very few people know? Who's got a dark secret here, or a weird one, or a funny one even? I really don't mean to be invasive but I don't want to be the only one sharing, plus I think hearing other people's secrets is quite fun, don't you think?

Let's Be Random Together! (Open Keypad).

Hey guys, a while back blog reader F said something about creating an Open Keypad post, where you can write whatever you want in the comment section. I thought it was a fun idea!
So who is interested? Comment on anything you feel like, ask me or anyone a question, talk about how your day went, your job, your interests, tell us something about you that we don't know, share a testimony with us, rant about anything you feel like, talk about your crush/boo/spouse/relationship/marriage, challenges you're facing, ANYTHING AT ALL!
I'll only make one request; that we stay civil.

(F it was you who made this suggestion, right? I'm not too sure and I can't even remember the post the comment was made on).
BTW please Ejoeccome out come out, wherever you are!
