Temilade's heart did a doubletake the minute Taiye walked in. It did not matter if she saw him a million times a day, he always had that same effect on her. Taiye mi she thought lovingly.
She had been in a state of both euphoria and confusion in the last few weeks. A wedding was afoot and there were decisions to be made. Many decisions. Too many decisions.
Should the engagement be a day affair, or an evening one? Evening engagement parties seemed to be in at the moment. And then the church wedding, should they wed at House on the Rock, which admittedly she hadn't really become ingrained into, having become a member only two months ago... Or should they wed at The Cathedral in Onikan? There was something old and aristocratic about wedding at The Cathedral. Old and aristocratic, just like his family.
But HOTR seemed to be young and hip, and even had an Instagram account! That was a plus for HOTR. And speaking of instagram, what hashtag would they use? She'd been toying with #Tsqare2016, #Taitem2016 and #Tailade'16. She'd leave that for her friends and followers to decide since she couldn't. Ok, now that was another decision taken care of. Baby steps but great victories nonetheless!
Should her bridesmaids wear a virginal pale pink, or should they wear a more sensual midnight blue? Speaking of bridesmaids, would she have to make Taiye's twin sister one of her bridesmaids or just let her wear asoebi like the rest of his family? Should Bimpe Onakoya do her makeup or Banke Meshida? Just then, inspiration suddenly struck; Banke Meshida for the engagement, Bimpe Onakoya for the White, and yes, Shomya for her Hen night! Yay, that was another thing sorted out!
Now asoebi. She knew her mother would pick out the fabric, so that was one less decision to make. But would she sell them or give them away? Temilade felt there was something somewhat ratchet about selling one's wedding asoebi. She remembered how impressed she had been when she heard Adaora Ofondu, the youngest wife of Emeka Offor had given out hers (which was very expensive btw) gratis. That was so classy and admirable. But realistically, could she really afford to? After all, even Toolz and Tunde Demuren had sold theirs, the munched chats those uncouth Olumofin brothers had posted announced even the amount to the world. Hmmmm, if Toolz Oniru didn't give her asoebi for free and nobody crucified her, then maybe it wasn't so bad after all...
Now wedding dresses. Should she wear Vera Wang or Alexander McQueen? And her shoes; Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik or Louboutin? Lord have mercy, that's a very tough one. For the reception party, should she wear one of the young trendy Nigerian designers, and if yes then who? Toju Foyeh or April by Kunbi? Now that was another tough one!
Speaking of receptions, outdoor weddings have become out of fashion and therefore out of the question. So Landmark or Le Meridian? Landmark seemed to be where all the monied Lagos crowd were wedding these days. She also hadn't decided on a wedding planner; Funke Bucknor Obruthe or Elizabeth R? Damn, she was going to need a lot of help deciding that.
Temilade stared down at her well manicured fingers and tried not to chew on her nails as her nerves were threatening to chew her. Photography was also another big decision to make. George Okoro or TY Bello? Or maybe someone else entirely? And then where would they live afterwards? Taiye had lived in Ikoyi all his life but Lekki 1 seemed to be where it was happening. Besides, it would create some distance from the prying eyes of his overbearing mother and sisters. That was a plus for Lekki.
Temilade watched Taiye as he made his way towards her table and her heart began to race a mile a minute. His broad shoulders were held high, his gait was purposeful and confident, yet his eyes were very kind, one of the many beautiful features on his handsome face. It seemed too good to be true that he was hers.
But you know what they say; when something is too good to be true, then maybe it is.
Which led to the final and most important question. Of all the decisions and questions that kept Temilade up at night, this was the one that worried her the most. How was she going to get Taiye Okoya-Cole to notice she even existed?
LOL. Do we have any Temilades in the house? Don't be shy. I know many of us have picked out our dresses, the dates, the venues and everything else. Everything is set for D day. Everything except the groom.
If I were to conclude this story, would you like Taiye to walk up to her and start up a conversation, or walk pass her on to another table? I'd prefer the latter, hope that doesn't make me a sadist.
