Yes I said it!

A few weeks ago, there was a post about a pastor who said

"Do not marry a woman who cannot cook, if she can not pray for an hour, don't marry her"

From time, women are known to own the kitchen, feed the family, be hospitable to guests, that is the nurturing aspect of being a female. In modern day society, gender roles have made it possible for both men and women to work in corporations and also at home. Some employ the services of a maid  when the female is a career woman who is too busy to be domesticated  and for sure pay someone else to do it.

well people have made all sorts of comments and come up with their own arguments but here is why I said women should know how to cook and no excuses.

1. First of all cooking your own meals would save you a ton of money, believe it or not, those little McDonald outings, Subway, Chic Fil A has a way of digging into your pockets whether you like it or not. You can spend $75 doing groceries with food stuff to last you over a week. As a  Nigerian in diaspora , food from African store costs more than regular grocery store so I do a mix of both, I can spend $150 to cook a pot of soup and stew that will last me about two weeks or more depending on how often I eat.

It is better than going out to eat a plate of food which on the average would cost $15 with little or no take away and then you long for the next meal which may cost you that or a little more. Do the math, eating out is expensive.

2. Everything about a homemade meal is awesome. You know your food hygiene, you know that you thoroughly washed the vegetables, you know, that the sink was clean when you washed some ingredients, the utensils were clean, the kitchen surrounding is also clean. Do you know the environment where your food was made? Some fancy restaurants have the dirtiest kitchens, some chefs don't clean up properly. Your chicken may have been fried with last weeks oil, your glass cup may have been washed with fabuloso (detergent).should I continue?

3. With YouTube and Instagram, there are so many people who can cook a storm, there are a million ingredients to learn from. I learned how to make meat pie and scotch egg from Youtube especially after paying a caterer an arm and a leg to make some for my graduation. I had to watch several videos and keep trying. There are many food bloggers out there to learn from, the visuals of the food they prepare makes you want to not just eat but try.

In this day and age the dissemination of information will make the presence of an excuse difficult. You have no excuse not to know how to cook, if it doesnt taste right the first time, try again, follow food bloggers, everyone has their own method of cooking jollof rice or fried rice, I am still learning how to get that burnt party jollof rice taste, I will get there someday.

Don't be a career woman to the point that your family will depend on another woman to feed, let them depend on your meal, your husband and your kids, it is your kitchen, own it. On some days hubby can cook, nothing is wrong with that but don't make a buka or restuarant your food alternative. Find the time to cook and meal prep. It is essential, it is also what makes us female, you have boobs to breastfeed, use your hands to cook so you can feed.

Lola Os blogs at:

So people what do you think, Is cooking one of the natural roles of a woman, is it really what makes us female?

Gentlemen, how would you feel about a partner who doesn't like to cook. She may or may not know how to but she just doesn't like cooking. Would this be an issue for you?

My sisters, how do you feel about cooking? Do you.
a-Absolutely love it! 😍😍😍
b-Do it, because you have to. 😏
c-Hate it, won't do it. 🚢🚢🚢

  1. Well as for me i really love to cook and try new stuffs as long as i have people to eat it; so i would say its a natural thing for me (as a calabar babe wink). I also have a full-time job too
I find it difficult to believe that there re some women out there who can't cook at all.
PS: Tee i have really missed your blog and BVs'. feels good to be back again.
    Oya re-welcome me again *kisses*****

    1. Lol... Loyal Anonymous, you are hereby re-welcomed.

    2. Lol... Loyal Anonymous, you are hereby re-welcomed.

    3. You're welcome ooo. Please don't leave us again, I promise we'll be good. 😘

    4. LOl i promise not to disappear again

  2. I cook because I like cooking...Most of the meals I learnt on YouTube..Is it one if the natural role of women..I would say yes..TNHW

  3. It's one thing to know how to cook
It's another thing to like cooking
It's another thing to hold down ur home
It's another thing to be hospital

Back in the day, women sewed the clothes they wore but today, things are different
Back in the day, women did laundry with their bare hands but today, there's either a washing machine or a washer man
Back in the day women were mutants who did everything without flinching but today women are becoming as human as the next male specie out there.
As for cooking, knowing how to cook and etc,as long as ur household isn't hungry, ur doing just fine.
The proverbs 31 woman didn't cook. What I read was she served meat to her household. She had househelps and maids that did the work and prolly cooked the food too.

I thought we wld be discussing how men shld stay faithful to the wives that cook for them. Or that one no follow for the marriage paroles? *hiss*

    1. Back in d days, women cooked n cooked n are still cooking... we've been discussing too much abt unfaithful husbands, ain't u tired of hearing abt them?

    2. Like a child would focus on A television that's served him since he/she was little...

I'm sorry that's how I perceived your last paragraph. No vex. 'wives that cook for them'!
So evidently she's meant to be the ultimate 'cook' of the family because it is a taboo for a man to likewise be a good 'cook' Huh?
I wish this world could reevaluate the whole 'designation' thing according to sex(was a thing before, but not in the new generation). If a woman doesn't like to cook, I think it's best she Marries someone who can, for compartmentability sake. And if a man doesn't like to be in the kitchen, it's best he marries someone who can. In the long run, it shouldn't serve as a proferred duty cause it's not. Any thing done should only be for the good of the entire family. I've seen a very famous man who at one time was a house husband for 6 years(for the good of the entire family). I wouldn't take exception to that reality cos Ideally we shouldn't.

*i hope Thelma can remember the movie, The Intern*

Point being that if we are getting into a marital relationship, compartmentalization should play a huge role rather than 'designations'.

    3. The Proverbs 31 woman line was very apt. I love cooking o but I believe there are ways around it. Shikena.

    4. She doesn't have to be the utlimate cook but she has to know how to cook sha.If you live outside Naija where you cannot afford a maid, you will be the ultimate cook. You can switch with your partner, if that works wel with both of you

    5. Exactly Lola. So this post shld have been why couples shld know how to cook as opposed to focusing on just women.
If women are encouraged not to depend on her man's money, men shld be encouraged not to depend on his wife's cooking and bla bla. No man has ever died holding a knife in a kitchen (unless he was on a suicide mission).

I always wonder who cooks in a -male-gay household. Topic for another day..

    6. Hahahahaha... Sasha and her wonderings...

But I do echo your sentiments. If what Lola is saying is true then this post should be about why "everyone" should know how to cook not just women.

When I read it, I was like, "so it's only women that should save money on take-out? What about the guys? Are they allowed to waste money on take-out out because they are guys?".

See, everyone should know how to cook, both male and female. And if you can afford to get someone to do the cooking for you then by all means, get someone. One rule cannot work for all of us. Some people love to cook, some don't. It doesn't make the lady who loves to cook any better than the one who doesn't.

    7. This comment makes a lot of sense Sasha... women have a lot of responsibilities tho... whew!!!

  4. Yimu. I had to re-read to make sure this is not a form of rant. Hian! Biko every lady knows how to cook, just that some are better cooks. Yes! And pls if u re busy, then by all means, employ a domestic staff. U 'pipo shld stop disturbing women upandan!
Very soon some1 will say they shld burn their washing machines and bend down and wash with their hands becos thats what the waist is created be bend. Pls get a cook if u want, buy washing machines if you want, get a driver to do the children's school runs if u want! Get a driver for uself too if u dnt want to drive urself! Ur hubby can also go ahead and have 10 'umuboys if he so desires! Enough of all these rules from a society that doesn't even care.

    1. Hello sister. We are so telepathic right now...

    2. That was how uncle "edible catering" came to nag on social media about how his wife doesn't cook for him.
She wld juggle her career, pay ur bills, take care of her baby and still fuss over ur tummy even though she arranged a cook because? That's when I knew some men just like to take the

    3. Chinenyewa. I read your comment which is highly appreciated. This post is not a rant, and yes everyone knows how to cook , some are better cooks than others, maybe that would explain to me why this chic who came to my house last week didn't the steps to take to make stew, she is thirty years old, she just learnt how to make noodles by watching a friend make it during a sleep over in May and she tried it, i looked at her some kind of way but everyone is different. That is where the inspiration for the post came from and also thinking about what Adeboye said.
I know how to cook and as a little girl my mom made me learn, we had domestic maids in the house who cooked but my mom supervised them and even in her abscence sometimes they knew what madam liked. My mom told me to learn because in her exact words "One day these people would leave this house and be better people, you would be here with me mixing salt and sugar, my daughter no way, follow them, watch them, help them and then wash plates"
I used to hate it but in the long run looking back later it helped me.
I have not lived in Nigeria for over a decade, i gained a lot of weight which i just lost following food/meal prep method i learned online. These days instaed of figuring out what to eat, i just take a plate of food and run to work. I have saved a lot of money from carry out. I wont lie o, i love eating out but one day i walked into a kitchen and what i saw ( topic for another day) made me just want to cook my own food.
My point is, females should know how to cook, both sexes should basically. Switch with your partner once in a while if you can, here in United states we dont have umuboy or housemaid even though on some mornings when i wake up i wish i had a maid who would run my endless errands.
Do what works best for you but in 2016, not knowing how to cook is not an excuse. Cheers

    4. πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ all i see is "here in united states we don't have umuboy! Lol.
I see how dat babe inspired the post but thankfully in the end, we re still on d same page..."do what works for you"

Ps. Your friend is just lazy and my Nigerian opinion says she needs In this internet world??? and i can bet she has 2 big smart phones so my Nigerian opinion is in order. Cheers.

    5. LmaoπŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

    6. We can say compartmentalise all we want but we know that men can be very selfish and will 'almost' always put their needs before their children but women won't do that. I say every woman should know how to cook for the kids and for themselves. If I've had 10 boyfriends, 10 of them knew how to cook albeit some cooking weren't just to my taste So I'd rather just make it to my taste. My dad is an extremely good cook but I don't expect that after a long day he'd carry his briefcase and stopover in the kitchen to start making something for himself when he has a wife who works for herself and yet he still provides for her and the entire household. I honestly don't know why this should be dragged really.

  5. It's not the only thing that makes us female but it's essential and important. Females that can't cook are seen a certain way in society but we learn everyday, willingness to learn counts a lot.
    A girl

  6. Some can cook, they cannot eat
Some can eat but cannot cook
We can cook, and we can eat

    1. Ameeeen. Bless this food Oh Lord for Christ sake. Amen.

    2. Hahahaha. Memphis you're not all right. Same goes for all of you that said replied 'amen'

  7. I am of the opinion that people need to write their own rules for their households rather than this one size fits all approach that can destroy relationships.

    1. I totally agree

    2. Iv missed you a lot sir! Very apt!!!
I even started stalking a Wale on BellanaijaπŸ˜‚

Miss/Mrs poster, if that post had read "Everyone" or "Male,Female" I'd have read this post... But of course, same oold same old.
I just went straight to the comment section and trust people like Sasha bone, Chinenyenwa and Oga Wale to keep it real.

You people should just face your household and life... Leave women alone abeg!!!!! Hian! Every tom dick and Harry has an opinion about women! We have heard. Face your own lives and do what works for you. Enough already!

    3. How are you ma? Missed you and all your witty comments. How is Sunshine? I need her in my part of the world right now.

  8. I cook because I have to. I rather would choose not to. I don't see a big deal in cooking. All I'm concerned about is my household eating deliciously healthy meal. Where that comes from, I care less.

  9. Why is this post centered on women cooking?
Everyone should know how to cook irrespective of their gender. Why will you want to leave something as important as food in the hands of someone else?

    1. Thank you oooo!!!! πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
I don't understand it at all!!!!!

    2. "Why will you want to leave something as important as food in the hands of someone else?"

Still wondering why the restaurant business is still as lucrative? Every nook and cranny of your locality has one Iya Basira or the other.

Bottom line, not everyone takes cooking that serious.

    3. Ahh anonymous pls o don't do this to me. Everyone should know how to cook? I'm comfortable how society says "he's a guy sha, I'm not surprised" whenever my jollof rice turns out green and I swear I wasn't trying to make fried rice

    4. Memekume!! Green jollof rice?? Hahahaha.

    5. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Punintended I'm sorry for you ooo! Sha don't go and poison yourself! Just stick to take outs and Iya basira.
Of course you'll be comfortable with what the society says. Same way I am with "the man should bring home all the money" or "his money is our money and my money is my money" but I know it is not realistic.
There are ways around this sha... If the wife is not into cooking... Get a maid... Get a cook... Pay someone to cook different kinds of soup and stew. I just hope one of you can safely prepare white rice or Eba at least to eat the soup πŸ˜’

Turia Pitt Suffered 65% Burns But Loved Conquered All...

Amazing Story Shared by Dr. Ben Carson on Facebook, i thought it is inspiring and i decided to share;

The Australian ex-model Turia Pitt suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body, lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and spent five months in hospital after she was trapped by a grassfire in a 100 kilometre ultra-marathon in the Kimberley. Her boyfriend decided to quit his job to care for her recovery.
Days ago, in an interview for CNN they asked him:
"Did you at any moment think about leaving her and hiring someone to take care of her and moving on with your life?"

His reply touched the world:

"I married her soul, her character, and she's the only woman that will continue to fulfill my dreams."

This made me very reflective. I just wonder; if the person you love today encounters an incident or accident that transforms who they are physically, it could be amputation, it could be paralysis, it could be severe burns that scald their flesh beyond recognition, w…

Good morning people!
Just checking in to sign the register. Lol. It's been a very busy week and it looks like it might be an even busier weekend. I was hoping to get some writing done when I got to the airport yesterday but I even almost missed my flight. It was hopeless trying to do any work on the plane as it was bumpy af, and this toddler behind me wouldn't stop screaming in piercing shrieks like he was being exorcised.
I got into town pretty late and needed to keep an appointment ASAP. I'm heading out right now and it's going to be a long day, but thought I should drop this first.
Have a splendid day. Im'ma be back soon.

One More Post...

He was my coursemate, crush, then my boyfriend.... he was super
intelligent, smart, tall, dark and handsome. Believe me he got
swag, but he didn't seem to notice me. (I'm a nerd but a sassy one
if I say so myself).  So oneday I decided to take it to another level..
After listening to a song "IF YOU LOVE SOMEBODY TELL THEM THAT YOU
LOVE THEM and watching the season film of The Secret Life of
American Teenagers. ..when Amy Jeugerns mum told her "you are only
young once". LOL that part got me.
Hope you know what i mean?

Though I'm okay with chemistry class I approached him to coach me for
the Quiz that was coming up, we found out that we had this
great chemistry between us.. hehehe both the covalent and
electrovalent bonds....

So one thing led to another till one unusual Saturday. I invited
him to my house and he came. The guy got swag, he even came
with a packet of durex condom.
We talked for a while and and and and and and
See how you are serious dey read this story....!

A side chick is commonly known as a mistress or a woman that’s romantically involved with a man who is in a committed relationship.  However after doing some reflecting, I realize that’s not the only type of side chick.  I want to discuss “the new side chick”–a woman who decides to stay by a man’s side after he has expressed his lack of relationship intentions with her through his words or actions.  So many women have made this mistake at least once in their lifetime, and unfortunately I’ve done the same thing. I like to think of the new side chick as an appetizer.  You’re there just to satisfy the immediate appetite of the man, but as soon as that mouth-watering entrΓ©e comes out to the table, you will get pushed to the side, literally.  Why?  Because that entrΓ©e is what he really wanted; he went to the restaurant to order steak, not hot wings.  You were just a placeholder, fling, temporary commitment, or  maybe even just a “good ol time” until what he really wanted was presented to hi…

I'm in an amebo mood tonight. Don't ask me, I honestly don't know why. Also I'd like to share too but I'd do that anonymously in the comment section. Tonight I want to talk about secrets. It's ok, we can all be anonymous.
Is it true that EVERYBODY has a secret?
Is there anyone here who doesn't have a secret? I'd really like to know; You're a completely open book and there's not ONE thing about you that you wouldn't mind other people knowing about? Please raise your hands up.
And for the rest of us, what's something about you that no one knows, or very few people know? Who's got a dark secret here, or a weird one, or a funny one even? I really don't mean to be invasive but I don't want to be the only one sharing, plus I think hearing other people's secrets is quite fun, don't you think?

Let's Be Random Together! (Open Keypad).

Hey guys, a while back blog reader F said something about creating an Open Keypad post, where you can write whatever you want in the comment section. I thought it was a fun idea!
So who is interested? Comment on anything you feel like, ask me or anyone a question, talk about how your day went, your job, your interests, tell us something about you that we don't know, share a testimony with us, rant about anything you feel like, talk about your crush/boo/spouse/relationship/marriage, challenges you're facing, ANYTHING AT ALL!
I'll only make one request; that we stay civil.

(F it was you who made this suggestion, right? I'm not too sure and I can't even remember the post the comment was made on).
BTW please Ejoeccome out come out, wherever you are!

TTB readers doesn't this tweet below remind you of something?
That mail that someone sent me a few weeks back.
But why on earth should a man sleep with his son's fiancΓ©? But what am I saying, some men even sleep with their daughters...

Oh well, I'm throwing the question to you. What has happened in your life that you never saw coming, you never hesperred it, you never imagined could happen, you never imagined could happen to you?
It could be good, it could be bad, it could be ugly. Do tell!
And it can be more than one. Let me tell you a few.
-owning a blog -week long dry fast at Prayer City (I never hesperred it).  -staying in an (emotionally) abusive relationship.
The others require anonymity. LOL. Now over to you.
