Hey people! What a time to be alive!!!
I don't know why but I'm so excited. It's the first day of December, the last month of the year.
I woke up really early this morning, I missed my morning exercise because I had over 300 messages to catch up on on WhatsApp and that seemed like more fun than hitting the road to break a sweat.
Most of them were from group chats, and a few from friends and clients. I took the time to read each one. One of these messages was from my friend Ahmed. He said if I remember correctly it was around this time last year he met me.
And I remembered that night, it was the night I took the picture above. I'd just come back from the club with the boyfriend and we were really pissed off. We had to pay about $100 each to get into the club. Imagine that!
But this time last year $100 wasn't as crazy as it is now sha, still it was ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. Just to get into the club! To make matters worse, inside the club you couldn't sit at a table unless you bought a bottle. The cheapest liquor they had was vodka and the cheapest bottle of vodka they had was about 1000 dirhams. We couldn't afford that (or we just didn't want to) so we bought beer and had to stand. And since we were standing in the club, we were forced to dance. And that was where the problem was.
They were playing only Indian music.
Bobo and I, the only black people inside the club btw, shuffled our feet awkwardly until I told him "Dude, I know that money we just spent to enter here is painful, but being inside is even more painful". And that's how fifteen minutes after parting with cold hard cash, we left the club, downtrodden. LOL.
On getting back to the hotel we met this guy smoking outside, he was on the phone and he was speaking Hausa. A Nigerian!
My friend asked him for a stick of cigarette and told him what had just happened to us. He tsktsked and said he wished we had met him earlier; he would have advised us not to go there. He then offered to take us to a better club and even invited us to join him to Abu Dhabi the next day for the Formula 1 race. That guy was Ahmed.
So that's what I was up to this time last year. I was preparing to come back to Lagos and I was really looking forward to it. It was then I realized that I'm one of those people that miss Nigeria after being away for just a few days. (The horror, I still can't explain it but I couldn't wait to get back to Lagos even though Dubai was a dream).
Do you remember what you were up to this time last year?
Come on, let's swap stories. I'm sure we all remember 😃😃😃.
