Spunk Or Shrew? You Decide.

Ace director and altogether super woman, Kemi Adetiba shared the mail above which she got from an 18 year old.

Kemi obviously loved the young lady's straight talking ways and said "Abso-friggin-lutely ❤️ this email. She's got spunk. I gotta work with her somehow".

Some of Kemi's followers applauded the young lady saying they admire her straight-talking, no-BS ways, others felt that the lady is disloyal and Kemi should not dare hire her! A few others even suggested that she has no "home training".

I read the mail and I felt that for someone like Kemi who obviously gets a tons of mails like this, you've got to find a way to set yourself apart. But "I plan to use you to make me more successful than you" got me wondering.

Ambition is great but what's are your thoughts on this?

  1. At 18,she has a lot of years ahead of her. So if she starts now to diligently pursue her dream, is it not obvious that she will be better than Kemi at Kemi's age(all things being equal)? What, so I learn from you but must restrict myself from achieving more than you? Difference between Nigeria and the rest. The lecturer wants you to do well but not surpass them.In developed world it is the opposite. It is a thing of pride to have a protegee that will achieve more than you did because it means that you are a good teacher.

This is the reason why that lady you worked for ghosted you, for fear that you will become more than she is and to me that is pathetic. Interns like this even push you to be more. The real deal is looking for people as hungry to achieve their dreams as you were with a possibility of surpassing in areas where you did not fare well...but how many of them are out there. J

  2. I think its perfectly okay. Sometime you have to think outside the box, especially in the creative sectors like movies directing, music etc. You just have to be different. This approach might not work if you are sending an email to a Bank MD, basically because the sector is more stuck up.

And...isnt that everybody's dream. Employers know it, employees know it. We all want to be more successful than the MD. Only the brave will say it directly.

    Peace.

  4. Know who you are trying to reach and know how to reach whoever. It worked for Kemi Adetiba. It may not work for another.

  6. Spunk, spunk, spunk! I love it!

Isn't that the point of understudying or being a mentee? To be better than you mentor? I love her jare. Aren't we all using our current employments, bosses, and connections to be better? The difference between this us and this young lady is she knows it and is stating it upfront. There's no harm in that.
