Friday night was lit af! A few blog readers and I had planned to have drinks on Wednesday, but thanks to Kabuoy who couldn't make it then, we opted for Friday night. Sasha Boné also suggested we go to a karaoke bar and that's how we wound up at Shaunz Bar, VI. Kon (and his friends), Sasha, Sunshine, Kabuoy, Buby, Nkem (with her sister) and I.
First off, Sunshine and Kabuoy are just something else, these ladies are amazingggggg, like the whole bar knew their names before the end of the night. I'm in love with their good vibes and awesome energy.
...So they wanted to monopolize the mic but unfortunately one man who sings like Michael Bolton and Rod Stewart's love child (or at least thinks he does 🙈) had seized the mic and made sure that everybody sha heard him sing by fire by force, and nobody else must sing. It was really paining Sunshine and Kabuoy, like they wanted to wring the life out of the man's neck. A few minutes later I walked pass the podium to return to my seat and I heard someone holla wambundo, it could only be one person, my boss of laife! My one and only boss, from my law internship days and then my Youth Service days and then my law practice days and now one of my most amazing friends! Turns out Oga was the one that had been colonizing the mic all along.
I felt like I owed everyone at Shaunz an apology because you see, back in 2010 I was the one who popped Oga's karaoke cherry. I introduced him to karaokes and obviously he's not only hooked, he has become a karaoke bandit, using his strong vocals to bully other would-be singers into silence.
Eventually Sunshine got her turn, as did Kabuoy and then at some point Kabuoy left to go and "set P" with one guy downstairs 😂. Then Sasha Boné took the stage, and then Kon took the stage rapping 50 Cents In Da Club with Sasha as back up.
And then at some point I just sat and watched all of them and then I became so overwhelmed with emotions, like God blessed me with these amazing people, and then a knot formed in my throat and I struggled not to cry. And then I looked at Kon and I remembered that in a day or two he would be leaving the country to go join his family in the oversees, and I legit broke down inside the club and started crying. Like, real tears child! Kon eventually noticed and then when he heard why I was crying, he laughed so hard that I got mad and my eyes immediate dried up out of anger 😤😤.
Hehe. And then we got to watch one guy propose to his girlfriend, after singing to her on the stage, and she couldn't stop jumping around and crying and hyperventilating 😂. But I tell you, love is such a beautiful thing ❤️❤️❤️.
So when it was just I, Sasha, Buby and Kon/Kon's friends left, Sasha suggested a game of truth or dare. That was freaking hilarious. Sasha dared Kon and to go and twerk on the stage during somebody's performance, which he did. Crazy guy! Kon dared Sasha to go and toast a guy and get his number, she did and ended up spending too long with the guy sef. Apparently they started feeling each other. LOL. Kon dared Buby to give some guy a lap dance... That lap dance was so hot it could boil rice! Kon dared me to go seductively chat up this babe who was with her boyfriend and get her number. I did! And while I was at it I told her about TTB and right there she opened the blog. We exchanged numbers and suffice it to say we have a very pretty new blog reader. Lastly I dared Kon to go and tell this cute guy I'd been crushing on all night to come and kiss me. 😂😂😂. OMG the guy came o! And kissed me, kinda... LOL. Don't judge me, the guy is tall, cute, certified beard gang member and sings like Trey Songs. Like, bros sang an Adele song and I nearly peed in my pant 🙈😍😍😂
And then we exchanged numbers and then we hooked up yesterday, but hey, let's not digress! 😆
So from Shaunz Bar we went to Ntyce but we weren't really feeling it, so we went to this "make shift" club opposite Mega Plaza. Aha! That was another story entirely. Sasha and Kon's friend (who has Duracell battery in his spine and cannot stop dancing) were in a world of their own. Kon and Buby both saw people that they knew and had their own asides and I was just there taking it all in when this baby boy came and poured himself all over me like white on rice.
Well Friday night ended at 5am on Saturday morning, the said baby boy took sasha and I to eat and then took us home, and now he and I have plans for later today... But let me not digress again. LOL.
Suffice it to say that it was one of those nights you look back on in 5 years and you still smile when you remember it. I cannot overstate how grateful I am for this platform, what I haven't made in cash, I've more than made in people, connections, relationships and bonds. Not just mine alone but even the people that meet each other through the blog.
I'm also thankful for Kon. I cried because I realized that he's been a huge part of all our recent hang outs and now he's relocating, just like Uyi. And I was scared that just like Uyi did when he moved to New York, Kon may grow distant from the blog. And I know that I will miss him, both his physical presence, but also his presence on the blog. Hashtag: Don't leave us Kon 😂😂😂.
Sunshine and Kabuoy deserve their own blog post I tell you. They are everything! Nkem and her sister make me hunger for a sister that's also a close friend and hangout buddy (they came for the last hang out together too). Buby... quiet demure Buby... Buby obviously has this other secret not-so-quiet side to her and I LOVEEEEEEEET! And Sasha, well that's my girl so...
To them and everyone else on the blog, those who come through when we hang out and those who haven't yet, I just want you guys to know that my life is a million times richer, simply because I have you in it.
